Take action from the bottom and in the territories to stop climate destruction; act locally and think globally to stem climate change through the daily behavior of each of us, with a fundamental objective at the centre: climate justice.
Climate Caravans is a program funded by the European Cultural Foundation, launched in 2022 by a transnational network committed to raising awareness and combating climate change with the involvement of six European regions: Brandenburg, the Baltic Sea on the Curonian Spit, Krakow, the St. Petersburg region, Puglia, Northern Netherlands, and which in our region has developed thanks to the action and work of the QG Enviro association.
Coordinated as lead partner by the EU Russia Civil Society Forum (https://eurussiacsf.org/), the program had the aim of developing creative methods and tools to encourage and facilitate the reflection and above all the action of the participants, all under 35, on the transformations induced by climate change in the various communities to which they belong in order to create cohesive networks of active citizenship and to promote social quality and the fight against climate change in every local reality, thanks to responsible and supportive behaviour.
After the first Climate Caravans workshop held in Nardò in August 2022, where the participants in the working group, students and professionals, were challenged to leave their comfort zones towards responsible behaviour, the Apulian program ended in Brindisi on 3 January 2023 in the former convent of Santa Chiara, guests of "Yeahjasi music space" thanks to a collaboration between QG Enviro, the ARCI Community Hub Brindisi club, the Collective TransFemminista Queer Brindisi, the TempoPresente social promotion association.
To make the training more engaging, non-formal education and cooperative learning methodologies were used, such as a role-playing game in a crisis scenario (prolonged drought), team building recreational motor activities, guided group discussions.
The results were not long in coming. Participants showed serious concern about the environmental crisis and fear for their future. They are ready to get involved to catalyze positive change and are well aware that to avoid a climate catastrophe it is necessary to implement a radical change in the current economic system.
